Class tonight - 4/9

I'm not going to be in class tonight...I'm sick and I feel awful. I don't want to get anyone sick...

1. It is very important to set aside time for reflection. By reflecting on what you have just taught your students, you will be able to see if they have met the goals and objectives you have set for them. Reflection also provides an opportunity for discussion, whether it be one-on-one, in groups, or as a whole class. This can do many things for the students, such as discovering things that not every student may have thought of. Reflection can also bring pride to the students by allowing them to show their work to one another, as well as giving them time to think about what could have been done differently. 2. There are many reasons why it is important for students to reflect and elaborate. One reason is that it gives students the option to think about what they could have done differently, that they didn’t think to do the first time. By having a full class discussion, students can learn about the things that other students studied and the more the information is discussed and elaborated on, the better the chance that students will remember what they learned. 3. Schools build tradition and identity by providing certain projects and performances that students and community members come to expect every year. When these types of projects are well planned and well executed, students tend to look forward to them in advance. You can involve the community by setting up fairs and exhibits for community members to come see what students have created. This gets everyone involved and builds the identity of the school. 4. The main reason that it is important to celebrate students’ projects is to show them that they have accomplished what they set out to do. It also raises their self-esteem. By setting up fairs and exhibits, community members can come and see the students’ work. By doing this, parents and guardians are able to come and see what their children have created, as well as celebrate with them what they have learned/are learning. 5. There will be a lot of reflection and elaboration involved in our project. Our students have Pen Pals in Paris, France that they will be corresponding with each week. There will be a lot of reflection in their letters, such as what they learned during the week as well as what their Pen Pal learned during the week. There will be full class discussions about what was learned which will give students time to elaborate on their projects. There will be public bake sales and other ways for the community to become involved.
